A Weekend with Craig Courtney

Celebrating 200 Years of First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg

To mark the beginning of our 200th anniversary year, First Presbyterian Church of Stroudsburg is bringing together choirs from across the region for a weekend of high-level choral music-making under the guidance of internationally acclaimed composer and conductor Craig Courtney.

 
 

SCHEDULE

Saturday, August 15
Workshop | 9:30 am – 3:00 pm

Choirs gather for a full-day rehearsal in which Mr. Courtney teaches and coaches every dimension of choral performance — from tone and technique to phrasing and interpretive depth. Lunch is provided for all participants.

Sunday, August 16 — Concert Day
12:30 p.m. | Participant call time for final rehearsal

2:00 pm | Public concert followed by a reception

Under the direction of conductor Craig Courtney, our workshop choir will perform sacred and inspirational anthems — including the world premiere of Sing Joyfully, a new work commissioned especially for FPCS 200th anniversary. A reception will follow.


Craig Courtney

Craig Courtney is an internationally known composer and conductor whose choral workshops have enriched choirs of all types across the country. His mission is to bring memorable, high-level choral experiences to singers and audiences at accessible costs — and to strengthen choral singing and conducting wherever he goes. Each workshop is individually tailored to the needs of the participating ensemble.

 
 

Music

Your registration includes a packet of nine choral anthems by Craig Courtney, Elaine Hegenberg, and Dan Forrest — individual anthems that are yours to keep after the weekend. The packet also includes the world premiere of Sing Joyfully, a new anthem commissioned especially for this 200th anniversary celebration.


Who Should Attend

This workshop is open to choirs of every kind: church, community, university, and high school. Individual singers are also welcome to join.
