Tickets are now available for an Iron Pigs game at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown on August 23 at 7:05pm. Reserve your place now to see the Pigs play the Syracuse Chiefs. Our FPC choir will be singing the National Anthem at the game, so come out and support them! Contact Patricia thor Straten-Mohr or the church office if you'd like a ticket ($11 per person).
The beginning of a new season of singing is fast approaching. Preparations for music have been made. The choir room will be dusted off and ready in time for our first rehearsals beginning Thursday, August 24 at 7:30pm for the Senior Choir, and Sunday, September 17 at 11:15am for the Junior Choir.
Senior choir is open to all teens and adults who enjoy singing for worship. This choir sings every Sunday, at worship, and for special services, leading hymns and liturgy, and singing a specially prepared anthem.
The Junior Choir is open to all youngsters, from Kindergarten thru sixth grade. This choir will sing October 15, at Christmas worship, Easter, and Mother’s Day.
If you aren’t a member of one of our choirs, I hope you will consider joining us this season.

Once again, we will be holding a Tricky Tray during Stroudfest to benefit the building and organ restoration project. If anyone has a business or works for someone who might be willing to donate an item or certificate to our event, please contact Amanda Denny. We are also hoping to put together some baskets - a candle basket (any and all size candles), a stationary basket (any kind of stationary; cards, notepads, pens), and a pet basket (fun things for your pet). We will place a tote to collect the items in the back hallway on Sundays. Individuals are welcome to put together their own baskets as well! In addition, the original idea was to have a book basket - but, as many of us have lots of books - we are thinking of having a book room instead.... where we will sell books for $1 - so anyone who has books around (and we know we all do), please donate the ones you can part with to our book room to be open during Stroud Fest!
Rally Day is September 10th. The CE Committee will be hosting Coffee Hour and during our coffee hour will be sharing our new offerings for adults as well as children. Many people will be sharing their gifts to bless our congregation and get us growing to strengthen our Christian Formation. There will be something for everyone. Please join us on this special date.
“Countless thoughtful people are now so disgusted with the marriage of bad theology and hypocritical behavior by the church that a new Reformation is required in which the purpose of religion itself is reimagined.
Meyers takes the best of biblical scholarship and recasts these core Christian concepts to exhort the church to pursue an alternative vision of the Christian life:
Jesus as Teacher, not Savior
Christianity as Compassion, not Condemnation
Prosperity as Dangerous, not Divine
Discipleship as Obedience, not Control
Religion as Relationship, not Righteousness
This is not a call to the church to move to the far left or to try something brand new. Rather, it is the recovery of something very old. Saving Jesus from the Church shows us what it means to be a Christian and how to follow Jesus' teachings today.”
Mark you calendars for a new adult Bible study on Wednesday evenings at 6:30-7:30 p.m., beginning September 13. (You are welcome to bring your dinner if you need to.) Led by Beth Utley, we will use Robin Meyer’s book Saving Jesus from the Church: How to Stop Worshipping Christ and Start Following Jesus. You may order the book ($1.99 on Kindle, starts at $3.00 in used books) or you may use the study guide that will be provided with excerpts from the book. Or, if you have no time to read anything, just come. You can still participate just fine with the discussion in the class. Truly, anything works here. (If you are not a computer person and want the office to order you a book, just let us know.)
As you may know, we are using a curriculum during the Adult Study called The Wired Word. Each week we discuss a current event to be analyzed in a biblical context. You can sign up for a free weekly email giving you an advanced look at Sunday’s topic. Contact the church office and Amy will be glad to put your name on the student list. Currently over 25 church members have signed up to receive an email—sent each Thursday. Class attendance is encouraged, but it’s not mandatory. So sign up today.
Youth group will have one final summer splash party at the home of Amanda and Allen. It will be on September 17th from 12-3pm. Bring your swim wear and your Michael Phelps like athleticism (or just a towel): whatever works. Please contact Bobbi or Heather to RSVP. Hope to see you there.
CWU is continuing the "Purse" project that helps fight human trafficking. If you have any gently used or new purses please bring them to church in Aug. and Sept. We will store them in the PW closet and deliver them to the Sept. 29 meeting of CWU. Marlene Maula takes the purses to Harrisburg where they are sold online. For more info please contact Sue Ayers.
Youth Group’s First trip to Awsom animal shelter is planned for Sunday October 1st. Bring a bag lunch and we will head over right after church until 2pm. Those puppies and kittens need to see your smiling face! Please put a paws in your schedule and make sure to come!

We will host our 26th Annual PATH Luncheon on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 11am to 1:30pm. All proceeds will benefit the work of Pocono Area Transitional Housing (PATH). Please contact the church office if you can provide soup, goodies, or your time to help make this event a great success (570-421-7751). You will find a sign-up sheet in your bulletin with the many ways you can help.
Another way you can helps it to invite your friends. Use the poster below, or pick up printed copies on the table in Fellowship Hall.
PW will be sewing Little Dresses again this summer. We will cut out the dresses on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 2 pm, and will sew on Saturday, Aug. 19. For those who are early risers we will start at 8 am, but any time you can manage is okay with us. We could use nonsewers to measure, pin, and iron. Bring a bag lunch as we will break for lunch.
