Where Do You Fit In?
Wherever your interests, time, and talents lead you, First Presbyterian has two pastors and 329 ministers (members) filling a variety of roles to empower this body of Christ.
Members move from one area to another, avoiding "burn out." Volunteering to teach one semester doesn't mean you're committed for 5 years. (Of course, you may discover it's so much fun you want to teach for several!)
Below are some ideas to get you started; add your own:
Artistic bent? Help keep our bulletin boards inviting and informative. Design posters/tickets for special events. Decorate Fellowship Hall for congregational dinners.
Business orientation? Construction knowledge? Trustees plan and oversee the maintenance of our facilities and take responsibility for our financial health.
Computer literate? Help keep our Website current and attractive. Help format the monthly newsletter.
Culinary arts? Coordinate and/or assist with food for congregational events. Provide meals in times of family crisis.
Dramatic flair? Join others to create readings/plays/pageants.
Heart for mission? Vision with the Mission Committee and/or participate in local, national, or global mission projects. 21% of our unrestricted income is dedicated for mission!
Love to tell the story? Facilitate or participate in Sunday morning classes (toddlers through golden-agers.) Try one of our small Covenant Groups throughout the week.
Musical? Sing with our Senior Choir (7th grade to 70+) or Youth Choir (4 years through 6th grade). Be a song leader at gatherings. Provide special music. Carol at Christmas to shut-ins.
Natural helper? Deacons are the "hands" who, with the help of cluster members, minister to members who are ill, grieving, or unable to get out. Questers quietly undertake projects from washing nursery furniture/toys to lifting spirits.
Office skills? Maintain our lending library. Assist our Stewardship Committee with the annual campaign. Help with monthly newsletter or special mailings.
Prayer power? Link up with our Prayer Chain. Join the bi-monthly Prayer Group.
Welcoming personality? Usher at worship services. Greet guests at gatherings.
Young at heart/mature in spirit? Work with one of our youth groups in building community, having fun, and serving. Co-teach a class from nursery through high school.
Your passion? Create the ways you can enrich our community of faith.
